Bilbao is known the world over – and not just for the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum – but for the fact that the region currently offers one of the most exciting gastronomic scenarios in the world. So much so, in fact, that the city has been chosen to host next year’s “The 50 Best Restaurants in the World” celebrations.
Secret Bilbao’s Foodie Tour Will help you discover the creations of some of the brilliant new chefs who have appeared on the culinary scene. Plus, of course, we’re extremely lucky in that we have a tremendous variety of local produce and excellent fish and seafood to choose from in this part of the world.
As we listen to the explanations of expert chefs, we’ll be told several of their secrets: the different ways of distinguishing a really good Extra Virgin olive oil from a normal, “run-of-the-mill” one, we’ll try wine pairing with mouth-watering “pintos” and perhaps sample some of the delicious craft beers and flavoursome cold meats and preserves made by authentic local artisans. And, since you’re in a private, select group, you can ask the chefs for extra tips about the ingredients of the delicious food they’ve made for you and how to best prepare it, should you wish to do so.
We’ll then take a break from our dedicated food and wine sampling and visit the Old Quarter of the city of Bilbao, when I’ll share some interesting facts and anecdotes about the city. However, I think it only fair to warn you that we shall stop occasionally at some of the “secret” spots only locals know about and continue our “appreciation” of local gastronomy!
